2/29/12

Good morning one and all!

The day started simply enough. We had class with Natania and I had to give a presentation on the play Bingo (remember that one I had mentioned starring Patrick Stewart). I presented with Hannah Breen, and I have to say for such a boring play I feel that we did a very good job of presenting it. Class didn't last too terribly long, after a little while Natania and the rest of the class started to get really hungry and so we broke off for lunch, after which people broke off into little groups to go explore and take advantage of the day. A few people were going to the Imperial War Museum, which sounds very interesting, but Hannah and I felt that it would make us just the tiniest bit sad and we wanted to stay in good moods and so we went to the Victoria and Albert Museum, or as I like to call it the most confusing freaking building on Earth. Admittingly that is a little over dramatic, but seriously Hannah and I had so much trouble finding anything in this museum it was crazy!
Big Building

Pretty Building

While finding exactly what we wanted to see was difficult we did manage to run into some cool stuff. The first thing we saw when we got into the Museum was an exhibit about Medieval Europe, which was basically religious objects and hunks of church buildings and so it was pretty awesome.
This one is thought to have pieces of the True Cross in it

Pretty cool Bible-Gift from Charlemagne

We also happened to find the room where certain statues and such were cleaned and fixed before being put out to be seen, it was really amazing!
I think those guys were a little freaked out that I was taking pictures of them

Then we went down this really long hallway like passage where there was a lot of iron fixings, like gates and boxes, ah boxes, oh the beautiful boxes that were there! I so wanted to take them home with me!

There was one room in particular that we were pretty excited to find (as any girl would be) a room full of jewelry from the year 1500 B.C. to the present. Yea this was a pretty big room. And I would love to tell you that I have pictures of them, but as you all know the coolest stuff is the stuff that nobody is allowed to get a picture of! So instead here are some really pretty monstrances I found!

For those of you who aren't Catholic (or who are but forgot what these things were called) a monstrance is used to hold the consecrated Eucharist during Eucharist adoration or the Benediction ritual. Hannah and I then needed a little air since she was starting to get a headache and I was just getting tired and so we found this cute little place to chill and hang out.

After the museum we were both pretty tired and so we went back to our flat and (big shocker here) took a nap! I slept until I was woken up for dinner, courtesy of Kelsey Hall, which was an absolutely delicious chicken parmesan dish!
